Benefits of IPL over LASER

Larger areas can be treated at one time.  A typical man's back would require about 60 to 90 minutes with a Long Pulse Diode.  The IPL300 would do the same job in about 20 minutes.

IPL works on persons who are outside of the acceptable limit for the Fitzpatrick skin pigment grading scale.  A type 6 could be treated safely (with skin bleaching.)  With blonde or red hair, carbon dye (included with the IPL600) is very effective in channeling the light energy to the hair follicle.

No hair is vaporized so there is much lower risk of pitting around the hair follicle itself (from intense heat).

In tattoo removal, the broad spectrum light of the IPL is effective against many colored inks in addition to black (minimum suggested rating: 180jcm2/second). 

IPL gives added benefits as a result of hair removal treatment.  Improved tone, texture, and vitality are commonly noted.

During IPL treatment the skin is exposed to very short and very intense flashes of white light, somewhat like the flash on a camera.... but the flashes from the IPL machine are FAR more powerful, and even more importantly, the intensity and duration of the flashes is precisely controlled by computer circuitry in the IPL300.

IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers, in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with color (chromophores) in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area. IPL systems are different from lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colors) in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength.

IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (epidermis). The results are not as dramatic as ablative resurfacing, where both the dermis and epidermis are injured to produce a much more noticeable overall outcome.  The advantage of IPL therapy is its minimal downtime – a patient can often have the procedure done in their lunch break and return to work immediately afterwards.
